Prof. Andreas Fuster tells us more about his youth, studies, interests and current research in the interview below.


Where did you grow up?
In Schwyz (the town itself).


Where did you go to University?
HEC Lausanne ('licence'), Oxford (M.Phil) and Harvard (PhD).


Who was your PhD Advisor?
David Laibson.

 
What is your main research focus?
 I am working primarily on household finance, real estate finance, and banking. I'm also interested in macroeconomics and behavioral economics. In recent work, I have focused in particular on the effects of technological advances on household credit markets.


What research are you working on right now that you are really excited about and why?
I'm writing a review article on "Fintech Lending", an area that I'm very interested in. Writing a review is a nice opportunity to get an overview of what's been done in this area and what open questions we should focus on next.   


What do you do in your spare time?
I go running or hiking in the summer, and skiing in the winter. And I write referee reports...  


What is your favorite holiday destination?
Anywhere in the Swiss alps for skiing. For summer holidays, I've particularly enjoyed Italy and Portugal.  


What languages do you speak?
German, English and French.
